We are past the midway point of the DSU Elite QB Academy and the quarterbacks were pleasantly surprised by a guest this morning. Former University of Oklahoma and current Minnesota Viking quarterback Rhett Bomar joined coach Dickinson and coach McCulley to assist in the training of the youth quarterbacks.

Another gorgeous day has come and gone at Saddlebrook Resort at the DSU Elite QB Academy. Day two saw the return of the humidity, but it also brought out a new determination from the quarterbacks to get better.

The Elite QB Academy at Saddlebrook Resort has officially begun! Nearly 25 quarterbacks from around the country have gathered down here in sunny Tampa for a week of training and developing with legendary quarterback coach Joe Dickinson, with the help from coach Joe McCulley.

Being a heavily recruited quarterback can have its definite advantages – being the face of the school, receiving plenty of attention from classmates, and even getting interviewed by DeBartolo Sports University. From the outside looking in it looks like a pretty good gig. However, once the summer before your senior season hits, the fun and enjoyment is pretty much over and it gets straight to business. Just ask Josh Cousins.

Tarpon Springs senior-to-be quarterback Louie Pappas was Pinellas County’s leading passer during the 2010 season. He threw for over 2,000 yards and his top two wide receivers, Renaldo Wright and Kenyatta Merriex, led the county in receiving. So how can Pappas improve on those numbers in his upcoming senior season? Enter Allen Wilson.

In the last year, Quinn Shanbour has gone from being a member of the Bishop McGuinness Catholic Irish to the Heritage Hall Chargers. Now he might have to add another team to his resume – Team USA.

For a group of area student-athletes, the Tampa Bay High School Combine on Saturday at the University of Tampa was the opportunity to showcase their talent and attract the attention of those college recruiters.
